July 31st

Not that this day has any significance to me. But it is the last day of the month July, and I can't help but notice that time is sitting in a rocket launcher.

So the question is: What have I been doing for the past 7 months?
Maybe nothing, maybe a lot. But I like to think that I had enjoyed myself. Well, I had been out for holidays practically once every 3 or 4 months, and I'm not even a flight attendant. This is just one of my ways of chilling out and relax and to experience life outside of SG.

But still, life is not complete without my own home. Our home.

Guess that will have to wait.

My 小妹 is getting married

Youwei aka 小妹 is finally getting married. I feel happy for him. I just saw his wedding studio photos and I thought he looked great. Handsome and not so short-looking. Just kidding. The same goes for the bride. They looked brillant together. I really hope for them the best in their future.

Favourites of Hong Kong

This is my third time to Hong Kong and I can't tell you how much I loved Disneyland Hong Kong. I totally enjoyed myself there. Nope, this isn't my first time to Disneyland neither. My first trip was to Tokyo Disneyland, during the spring time. As it was very cold and windy, plus the fact that I did not prepare myself for such weather, I didn't enjoy myself at all. I was looking for shelter all the way.

But this time, at Hong Kong Disneyland, was no problem at all. In fact, it was so scorching hot, I must say I had gone a shade darker.

But all the hotness and sweat did not deter me from all the fun I had. The 4-D theatre show, Phiharmagic, was brillant. The 3-D effects were very real and the additional 4-D effects made the whole experience unforgettable.

Then there was The Festival of the Lion King. It was a 30-minute musical which talked about the story of Simba, the Lion King. The stage, the prop, the performers and the music were simply the best. You can really see the difference in a Walt Disney production. Everything was so accurately executed, the actors and actresses danced and sang with all their hearts. I feel that their efforts were something solid, something that could be seen, by me at least.

Then there was the Stitch Encounter. It was a totally interactive show where Stitch could converse with the audience. It was very funny because we opted for the Putonghua show, which is mandarin, and there were a lot of tourists from China. And some of the tourists were being made fun of by Stitch. But I was also fasinated by the technology that Disney used in making of this programme. What the audience saw was just a big screen, with Stitch in it, just like in a movie's. But Stitch can "hear" and "see" the audience. Truly amazing.

The Space Mountain was fun. It was probably the most intriguing and exciting of all the rides in Disneyland. Nice but not exactly adrenalin pumping, to me at least. Then there was a Stitch ride which I can't remember the name. But the agenda was to defeat Zurg, or Zorg? Now that was fun because we sat on the spaceship and started to shoot at targets and points were accumulated for each target hit on. Me and Hubby were at the same level 4. Not bad huh.

What else was fun? The usual picturesque USA Main Street is great for photo-taking, and the famous mascots of Disneyland, always poised for picture-taking with the visitors. One thing to highlight though, the overall service of this place was not as bad as I had heard. All the other regular staff were quite willing to pose for photo-taking when I asked them to. And other general service was good too.

And when I saw the parade at 1pm under the hot sun, what I saw was professionalism and a love for their work. All the dancers were all smiles and all the mascots were dancing and waving. Even the ushers were professional. They did not lose their cool even after having to repeatedly ask the on-lookers not to cross the street while the parade was still in progression.

But the downside of this trip was, not exactly their fault, but rather the weather's, that the fireworks did not quite turn out what I expected it to be. The strong wind made all the fireworks which were supposed to be symmetrical, blown to one side. In the end, it was like a total mess. Not fantastic but ok. It was just luck.

After the not so fantastic pyrotechnics display, we went back to our hostel, feeling somewhat not wanting to end this fantasy so soon. All the famous Disney's songs just stuck inside my head for the whole night.

Back from HK!

I'm back! And I'm sick too. Luckily I got sick only towards the end of the trip. Very tired now because I've just finished copying the photos into my laptop.

Update will begin probably this morning.

Off to Hong Kong

Finally, a chance to wind down and recharge. My long awaited holiday. Seriously, I think I am suffering from what I called a nomadic syndrome. I usually can't bear with the thought of staying at one place for too long, especially in SG. Even if it was a short break to nearby countries, to me, it is a instant relief to my horrible "illness".

Hehe.

So I'll be back on 20th July. Ciao.

Blades of Glory

Nope, I'm not talking about the comedy movie. Went blading this morning with Hubby. It was fun. We were practising at the skater's corner near the underpass. I love my new blades! Bought them yesterday. But need some getting use to wearing them because my ankles now are quite sore.

Well gotta catch a wink now. Working tonight ya.

Ugly Singaporeans-Part 2 The Ugly Landlady

Ok, as promised, I will now bring you another episode of the Ugly Singaporeans.

Well, to keep the story short, I would just say that another PRC MA of mine got into some "trouble" with her landlady. Her contract for staying there will end soon. And together with some other PRC friends, she actually wanted to continue with the lease, but then suddenly the landlady said she wanted to increase the rent from 950 to 1500 SGD per month. And all of them agreed. But a few days later, the landlady said she wanted them to pay her the deposit and the agent fees. My MA and friends understand the deposit part. It was the agent fees which they don't get it. Why would they need to pay the landlady agent fees when no agent was involved? So they decided not to continue with the rental but requested that they stay for another month until they find another room and the landlady agreed.

But 2 days later, the landlady ate her own words and force them to leave before the end of June. They had no choice but to agree. Just when my MA thought that she still had another day to pack up her things and leave, that landlady locked up her apartment with another new lock. Now, my MA was really stunned and shocked. Her things, worth about 500 plus SGD was still inside that apartment. She and her friends were locked outside for no apparent reason and no explanation was given by the landlady. My MA had no choice but to report to the police.

But the police couldn't help her neither. They kept saying that this case is under civil lawsuit, that she would have to bring the case to the court. Disheartened, and perhaps disappointed with Singapore's law and people, she told me her story.

I can't help but feel disgusted with this landlady's action. Again, my MA earns less than 800 SGD per month and all she wanted was to get her things back. But this unsympathetic woman just ignore all her calls. 500 plus SGD is very precious to her, mind you. She would have to scrimp and save in order to have that kind of money. But now, I would say that it's gone, for no apparent reason.

But it's the helplessness I feel, that I couldn't help her at all. Except to advice her to call up the China Embassy and see what they suggest. I can't help but feel that most Singaporeans really treat PRCs like dirt. Sure, you must have seened reports about those lousy PRCs who did all the heinous things while in SG, but they are only the black sheep. Hey, I had seened my fair share of rotten PRCs too, and yet I approach the others with an open heart and mind. Because I know that not everyone of them is bad. Now if some SGers got cheated while in China, I would say,"Serve them right!" What goes around comes around.

Till now, my MA has not seened this landlady even once after the police report.

P.S. I am a true-blue SGer.

Ugly Singaporeans-Part 1 The Ugly Landlord

The thing is this:

One fine day, I suggested that me and some of my colleague friends should go to JB to get those makeover done there. It is much cheaper to do it there than in SG. So one of the friends, who is a PRC, said since her landlord is a photographer, maybe we could ask him for advice on where to get the shots done. So she proceeded to ask her landlord. Days later she SMSed me that her landlord can recommend his friend, who has a studio in JB, to us. He charges MYR480 per pax. We all thought that the price was okay, as long as it is cheaper than in SG. We then ask my PRC friend to book a date with the landlord. Everything was settled. Or so it seemed.

Then the three of us were all happy and looking forward to that day. But thanks to the increased crime rate in JB, I got to know about the terrible deeds that had been commited when I saw my MAs signing the petition to protest about the heinous crime rates. Then I told Hubby about it and he was apprehensive about the whole photo shoot thing.

He insisted in going to JB with me. He was almost sure that the landlord could not be trusted. So I promised him to check this thing out from my PRC friend. I SMSed her 1st thing in the morning. She called me at our workplace, and told me that she had developed allergies on her face. When asked if it was serious, she said I will know when I see her. She wasn't sure whether she could put on makeup in such a state. I asked her to consult her landlord, since he was a professional photographer, he should also know the makeup.

So after work, we met at the company doctor's. When I saw her, I was shocked to see her condition. She looked like she was wearing red colored face mask. Her allergy affected the nose area and the chin area. It looked pretty bad and certainly not suited to put on makeup. So while waiting for our numbers to be called, I chatted with her.

I asked her what did her landlord said about her condition, and the landlord said that it was ok, his friend can always edit her pictures using the software so she should just carry on with the photo shoot. When I heard that, I knew that this landlord was up to no good. In fact, when I talked to her over the phone about this, I had an uncanny feeling that the landlord was going to ask her to go ahead with the shooting. And I just told her all my fears had been realised, and that her landlord was out to cheat her, and us. She continued to tell me that the landlord had ask her to give him the money first, then he would in turn pass it to his friend. That was strange, considering that we will meet his friend and we could pay him the money directly. Then I quickly asked her to call her landlord, to tell him that we were cancelling the shoot.

The 1st time she called, he was certainly unhappy about it. She told him that the doctor adviced her against putting anything on her face at all. He then told her that, "Ok, you(my friend) don't take the photos nevermind, you just bring your friends over." Wow. Hardseller. I told her no. Since we knew that it was a scam, it would be stupid to fall for it. Then after several rounds of phone calls and coaxing, he finally relented.

Well, you thought that the story will end here? Not quite. Soon after we parted, she SMSed me one strange message. The message read something like this: Later you reached home, can you lend me $200? I need to pay for my friend's losses. Moments later, she called me. She said that her landlord sent her this SMS. I told her that don't ever lend him this money. There is no such thing as making up for his losses, or his friend's, for that matter. We did not sign any agreement at all, I told her. If she lends him the money, she will never get it back. Anyway, it wasn't the 1st time that the landlord had borrowed money from her. But alas, she lended him $200 the 1st time. And now, he wanted her to lend him money again without him ever repaying her the 1st time?!

Conclusion, this man, whoever he is, is a disgrace to all SGers. Fancy calling himself a professional photographer and yet, needs to borrow money from a PRC whose basic salary is less than $900. And when he is in need of greater amounts of money, he resorts to cheating. Or attempted to cheat. I have calculated. If he got his way, he would have pocketed at least half of the MYR480 from us, and give the other half to his friend. That would be more than $300 SGD.

Pathetic, if you ask me.
