Good Bye, CNY Eve and 初一

These two days fell on my working shift, unfortunately. But it doesn't really matter. CNY has no meaning other than get-togethers and stuff. So it's ok. It's really ok.

Man, I hate my work.

Murphy's Law

The thing about Murphy's Law is, that it is always right.

Try carrying a bowl of Maggi noodles with soup filled almost to the brim and tell yourself that it will not spill onto the floor. Chances are, it is going to spill anyways.

Try suggesting to your hubby that you two should go out right after work to wherever and tell yourself that the day at work would be an easy one. Chances are, in my case, a lot of machine downtime and no time for a breather.

The Road to a More Gracious SG

It's not impossible, in my opinion, but I think that the government should lead the way. Meaning, they should be the role model to the people. If the government wants us, SGers, to be more gracious and sensitive to the needs of others, they should lead by example. For example, let those disabled people travel for free in public transportation, or maybe some other public facilities as well and so on. They should put their words into actions and not just telling the people to do this or that. They must prove that they really care. This might help to cultivate a more caring younger generation, let them see the real actions taken, not just talk, and they might be more involved in helping the needy.

I don't know. Maybe this is just wishful thinking on my part. Afterall, I'm no do-gooder neither. Maybe I should also learn to give away my seat to some elderly without being too embarrassed about it.

象の背中--雲の上のお父さん

Part 2... Also very touching... Especially the part where the kids wrote [ありがとう](Thank you) at the back of the shell.

"Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind.
"Pooh!" he whispered.
"Yes, Piglet?"
"Nothing," said Piglet, taking Pooh's paw. "I just wanted to be sure of you.""

Treasure Your Loved Ones

象の背中, part 1. This is the most touching video I've ever seen. It was said to have sent many fathers in Shibuya back home to accompany their family, instead of hitting the bars after work.

SGers have done it again

I had a sudden craving for waffles just after work. So me and Hubby went to a food store located inside the interchange. There were a few people before us, so we waited behind them. But before I could place my orders, two other aunties came from behind me and cut my queue, " 3 waffles," said one. " 1 butter pancake," said the other. Then Hubby asked me if I had placed my order, I said no. Then I turned to the auntie seller and ordered," 2 waffles please," At this point of time I must had been invisible. Had I switched on the invisible mode accidentally? There were at least 4 people selling the food stuff and not a single one of them noticed me. But that's not the point. The point was that they kept receiving orders from behind me, and not from me.

Biisshh!! Fire raged all within me and I turned over to Hubby and proclaimed," Forget it lah, I'm not eating lah!" and walked away immediately as I said that, leaving some of the other patrons mystified. Hubby asked why, and I said," Nobody is paying attention to me. I'm invisible mah!" And not to mention about the people who had jumped queue.

Believe me. I could have swore at them: the Q-cutters and the aunties who provided lousy service. All the KNNs and CCBs were circling inside my mind. And I told myself NEVER to buy from this store again.

Another Perspective

I've been staying at home for most of my rest days, watching TV programs, watching anime online and stuff. And to save money, of course.

And I have to say that the Discovery Channel, Travel and Living and the National Geographic Channel are my favourites. I can sit rooted to the sofa for hours and hours, show after show, documentary after documentary. And I can't get enough of them.

Some documentaries left me in awed, while others had touched my heart. They are also very informative and some are just lessons to be learned. I can't help it but a lot of things were going through my mind as I watched. I pondered over a number of topics shown and they usually leave me and brain very tired, but also a glimpse of something, I am not sure what.

I considered all of these not only as an entertainment, but in some ways to a certain extent, something enriching.

We Deserve Better Foods

My friends from China keep telling me that the fruits and vegetables here in SG is yucky. They would boast that the produce from their country is better and tastier.

And they might be right. While most of these produce are usually imported from many other countries including China, the quality of these items are usually more inferior when they are being shipped to SG.

Reason? For example, the fruit of say,an apple, is usually harvested before they are riped, coated with a layer of wax and other post processes. So how can the apple be sweet when it is not ripe? It all started to make sense. And we SGers have the rights to demand better quality foods. The government should invest money in agricultural activities and technologies so that we can also grow organic fruits and vegetables of higher quality, and hopefully at a cheaper price. If you eat an apple everyday for 70 years, what would the net weight of the wax(coating the apple) amount to? And is that going to keep the doctor away?

We deserve better, most definitely.
